About Me

I’m a content creator with a love and appreciation for art in all its forms. I’m currently working in the media industry as a PRWeb Editor for Cision and the Social Media Manager for L-E-X Salon.

As a PRWeb Editor, my day typically consists of copy-editing an average of 20-30 B2B news releases, fact-checking material news, vetting companies, assisting clients with general inquiries or tech issues, and some clerical work.

During my time at the company, I’ve not only worked on press releases regarding new product or service announcements, but also press releases regarding information that affects the monetary value of a company and legal cases. As such, I’ve become a top-notch researcher and fact-checker in order to meet standard editorial guidelines as well as law editorial guidelines.

As the Social Media Manager for L-E-X Salon, I have the ability to flex more of my creative skills. It being a small business, there wasn’t much structure or consistency to its social media presence. I created a basic content calendar for the owner and discussed future projects to prepare for. She would give me general ideas of what she would like to achieve in the future (giveaways, promotional advertisements, ways to give back to the community, etc.) and I would create a concrete plan to turn them into reality. Outside of the larger projects, I have the privilege to run free with the social media content being posted, so long as it fits the overall image of the salon.

In the first 2 months of managing their social media, I increased their followers by 4.3%, increased their account engagement by 1,120%, and increased their reach by 4,649%. With a limited budget, this was achieved without a single paid advertisement.

As a kid, I had so many interests that the question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” always stumped me. It wasn’t until I discovered the TV show “Charmed” and my love for Phoebe Halliwell’s character, that I considered pursuing a career in writing. You’re telling me, I could make a career of giving advice to complete strangers? Sold.

This obviously didn’t pan out as who wants to take unsolicited advice from a 12 year old with braces and zero life experience? It; however, was the stepping stone to where I am currently. I studied Journalism all throughout high school - even working for the school newspaper and literary magazine - and into my sophomore year of college. It was then I realized I had a bit more flare for creative writing as opposed to news writing, so I turned my interests to the advertising world.

My interest in the publishing world remained, but I started learning about the processes behind advertisements. I spent a year as the Co-Art Director of my university’s literary magazine, Grub Street, where I helped create promotional material and merchandise for the upcoming anniversary edition while reviewing art submissions to be accepted in its final production. From here, I moved onto becoming the Marketing Intern for a Baltimore staple, Miss Shirley’s Café, where I was able to work more with different marketing tools such as Survey Monkey and Adobe InDesign. I wouldn’t call myself a savant in either platforms just yet, but I’m a quick learner and overly competitive with myself.

When I’m not juggling my duties as a copy-editor and social media manager, you can usually find me working out, looking up new restaurants/cafés to try, getting up-to-date on the latest fashion trends, or researching potential additions to my skincare regime. I take self-care very seriously. 12-year-old Josephine couldn’t really identify with any one title at the time, but with growth, change, and the conception of social media, I can “safely” call myself a lifestyle junkie.
